Lead(ii) thiocyanate is prepared by the reaction of sodium thiocyanate with nitric acid microacid and lead nitrate. It is prepared by the action of sodium thiocyanate (or potassium) refined by recrystallization and lead nitrate. 25 g of sodium thiocyanate and 45 g of lead nitrate were each dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water, and each solution was cooled to 0 to 5 °C. The sodium thiocyanate solution was added to the lead nitrate solution with stirring. A lead thiocyanate precipitate was separated by filtration, and the precipitate was washed with ice water. It is dried in a dark place on a suitable desiccant such as anhydrous CaCl2.
Lead(ii) thiocyanate is prepared from sodium thiocyanate and lead nitrate. 25 g of pure NaSCN was dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water. 45 g of pure Pb(NO3)2 was dissolved in 100 mL of distilled water, and the two solutions were cooled to 0 to 5 °C. The NaSCN solution was added to the Pb(NO3)2 solution, and the precipitated Pb(SCN)2 was filtered off. Wash with ice water and dry in the dark.
