Germanium(Ⅳ) oxide

Germanium dioxide,Germanium Product

Germanium dioxide, the molecular formula GeO 2, is germanium dioxide, and the electronic formula is the same as carbon dioxide. It is white powder or colorless crystal. It is mainly used in the preparation of germanium metal, as well as spectral analysis and semiconductor materials.

Germanium dioxide is tetragonal, hexagonal or amorphous. Hexagonal crystals are isomorphic to beta-quartz. Germanium is tetragonal. Tetragonal crystals have a super-quartz structure similar to rutile, in which germanium is hexagonal. Under high pressure, amorphous germanium dioxide is transformed into six-coordinated structure, and with the decrease of pressure, germanium dioxide is gradually transformed into four-coordinated structure. Germanium dioxide with rutile-like structure can be transformed into another orthorhombic calcium chloride structure at high pressure.

Germanium dioxide is insoluble in water and hydrochloric acid and dissolves in alkaline solution to form germanate. Rutile-like germanium dioxide is more soluble in water than hexagonal germanium dioxide, and Germanic acid can be produced when it interacts with water. Germanium oxide can be obtained when germanium dioxide and germanium powder are co-heated at 1000 degree C.

Dry germanium oxide does not irritate the skin, but it does irritate the conjunctiva. Germanium dioxide is slightly harmful to water. Do not expose undiluted or large quantities of products to groundwater, waterways or sewage systems. Do not discharge materials into the surrounding environment without government permission.
