Potassium metaborate is a white loose powder or crystal with a molecular formula of K2B2O4.3H2O.

Relative density of Potassium metaborate 1.178 Solubility Soluble in water and slowly liberate hydrogen, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, almost insoluble in ether, benzene, tetrahydrofuran, methyl ether and other hydrocarbons.

The production method:
4H3BO3+2KOH ===K2B4O7 (potassium tetraborate) + 7H2O (KOH insufficient)
K2B4O7+ 2KOH=== 4KBO2 (potassium metaborate) + H2O (KOH excess)
